‘Maa Da Ladla’ Movie Review: Neeru Bajwa and Tarsem Jassar’s family comedy is packed with a barrel of laughs

Story

‘Maa Da Ladla’ is a story of not one but two sons - one is Gora (Tarsem Jassar) who is the grandson of Bachano (Nirmal Rishi) and the other is Kevin who is the son of a single mother Sehaj (played by Neeru Bajwa). The tale revolves around Sehaj, Kevin, and Gora. Sehaj doesn't want her son to do anything with his father, but young Kevin craves the father figure in his life. This is when Sehaj decides to hire Gora, a struggling actor to play Kevin’s fake father. However, their fake drama not just leads to some situational comedy but also ignites some beautiful bonds and that is what gives the comedy movie an emotional stroke as well.

Review

‘Maa Da Ladla’ has been one of the highly anticipated films of Punjabi cinema, as it was bringing back the duo of Neeru Bajwa and Tarsem Jassar. Also, the presence of Iftikhar Thakur, Naseem Vicky, Nirmal Rishi, and more in the supporting cast added to the excitement of the audience even before the movie was released. But to be honest with the audience, the real hero of the movie is the script and the dialogue.

Written by Jagdeep Warring, this is without a doubt one of the most fine-tuned Punjabi comedies. There is no denying that the way Naseem Vicky and Iftikhar Thakur delivered their dialogues left us in splits, the writing in itself was so hilarious that controlling laughter became a challenge. There are dialogues in the film that you will play in your head again and again even after coming out of the theatre.

On top of that, though the entire script is simple, the treatment given to it with the spoonful of punches is commendable. And for that, the credit goes to the caption of the ship- Uday Pratap Singh. He made sure that finally the Punjabi audience is served with a family entertainer that reinstates their belief in Pollywood’s comedy genre.

Now moving ahead, let’s discuss the performances, and we would love to begin with Tarsem Jassar. The man who is known for his angry young man look and serious character surprised us with his comic side. Never thought the color of comedy would suit Jassar so much. Right from his dialogue delivery, to his goofy expressions to his ultimate command over English in the film, everything about his character made us fall for him. In fact, we are ready to say that no one else other than Tarsem Jassar would have played Gora better.

And now it’s time to talk about the female lead of the film, the Pollywood queen Neeru Bajwa. Neeru as Sehaj, the boss lady, played her part with utmost ease and finesse. There were different layers to her character. She was strict a boss lady, she had a class to her persona, she was a hands-on mother, and despite showing the world that she hardly cares about emotions and relationships, her heart bleeds with sentiments. To be honest, she acts like a wounded lioness in the movie, who is hurt but never shows her scars. Rather, she puts on a mask every day and goes on for the fight.

Further, this review can not be complete without the mention of Nirmal Rishi, Iftikhar Thakur, and Naseem Vicky. Nirmal and Iftikhar had their own chemistry in the movie which was so cute, innocent, and funny. And on the other hand, Naseem Vicky was without a doubt the most comic character in the film. His one-liners were so good and the way he used to say the funniest of lines with a poker face made us a fan of his skill. Without him, the movie would have lost its charm.

Overall the film will crack you and it is a perfect dose of laughter that can be enjoyed by every age group.
